1ST MITSIKOURI INTERNATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
The official programme of the 1st Mitsikouri International Festival of Performing Arts for Children and Young People was announced on Tuesday, 10 September 2024. The Festival, organized by ASSITEJ Cyprus, hosted 11 productions of theatre, dance and music for children, from 10 different countries: the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Lithuania, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Greece, Iceland and Finland. The programme included performances for all ages, from 0 to 18 years old.
The aim of the Festival is to bring Cypriot audiences into contact with contemporary international trends in the field of performing arts for children, as well as to offer moments of emotion, magic and laughter for the whole family. With inclusion as the thematic focus of this first edition, most productions were non-verbal, making them accessible to every child.
The performances were presented in seven different venues across Nicosia, Limassol and Lefkara. The Festival also included a rich parallel programme of workshops, discussions and lectures. The parallel activities were aimed at children, parents, professionals and educators, and were officially presented in the days that followed. The festival's logo was designed by distinguished Cypriot artist George Tsangaris. The opening ceremony of the Festival took place on 25 October 2024, at 18:00, at the new Nicosia Municipal Square, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus.
