Mitsikouri Festival

The International Performing Arts Festival for Children and Young People Mitsikouri was first organized in 2024 by the Cyprus Centre of Theatre for Children and Young People – ASSITEJ Cyprus, addressing a significant gap in the country’s cultural landscape. The inaugural edition took place from October 26 to November 3, 2024, and featured 10 productions from 9 countries, presented across multiple venues in Nicosia, Limassol, and Lefkara. It was accompanied by a rich parallel program of workshops, discussions, and activities for children and professionals.

A key feature of the first edition was its emphasis on non-verbal theatre and inclusion, making the Festival accessible to all children regardless of linguistic or cultural background.

The success of the first edition led to the establishment of the Festival as an annual institution. In 2025, Mitsikouri returned with an expanded program of 11 productions from 9 countries and a significant geographical expansion across five cities and regions of Cyprus, further strengthening its international dimension and audience reach.

In a short period of time, Mitsikouri has evolved into a key platform for presenting international trends, audience development, and networking in the field of performing arts for children and young people in Cyprus.

The Mitsikouri Festival was a great experience in every way. We have been traveling with shows all over the world for the past 30 years and what we found at the festival in Cyprus was this spirit from the old times. The intimacy between those who are performing with a lot of opportunities to meet, eat together and enjoy each other's company. The organizers have put their heart and soul into making the experience the best it can be for both the audience and the performers.
