Marina Maleni

Education: University of Texas at Austin – Theatre and Sociology (double scholarship recipient from the Department of Theatre and the Department of Turkish Studies). Open University of Cyprus – Master’s Programme in Communication and Journalism.

Upon returning to Cyprus, she joined the founding team of producers for the Third Programme of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (RIK). Until 2002, she collaborated with RIK as a producer of entertainment and informational radio and television programmes, a presenter for major special events, and an actress. More recently, she collaborated again with RIK as the presenter of the weekly cultural television discussion programme Art Cafe (2017–2023), within the framework of the THOC–RIK partnership.

At the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOC), she initially worked as an actress for six years and later, from 2001 onwards, joined its administrative team as a Theatre Development Officer. Her main responsibilities included theatre grants, international exchanges and collaborations, playwriting development, educational programmes, and non-professional theatre for both children and adults.

She has worked extensively in the areas of cultural policy development, European collaborations, playwriting development, professional and amateur theatre, theatre in education, and festival organisation. She was also responsible for curating Cyprus’s national participations in the Prague Quadrennial since 2007, where Cyprus was awarded the top distinction, the Golden Triga, in 2023.

She has actively participated in the THOC–Ministry of Education Special Committee for Theatre in Secondary Education, was a member of the committee for the establishment of a unified cultural body, and of the National Committee for the Delphic Games. She is a board member of the Cyprus Theatre Museum, an honorary member of the Cyprus Centre of Scenographers, Architects and Theatre Technicians, a member of the Interdepartmental Advisory Committee of the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK), an honorary member of the Board of the Cyprus Centre of Theatre for Children and Young People – ASSITEJ Cyprus, and a member of the Advisory Board of World Stage Design 2025, among others. She has also designed and coordinated several of THOC’s participations in the Culture Programme.

In November 2023, she was elected as a member of the Board of the pan-European network European Theatre Convention.
