
Leda Koursoumba Honorary Member
Leda Koursoumba is a distinguished legal professional and a prominent figure with long-standing contributions in the field of human rights, particularly children’s rights. She was born in Nicosia and studied law in England. She is a registered lawyer in Cyprus, specialising in Constitutional and Administrative Law, as well as Human Rights Law. She served as Commissioner for Legislation (2002–2019) and Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights (2007–2019), and has represented the Republic of Cyprus before international and European courts and organisations, including the European Court of Human Rights, the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and the European Union.
She has served as President of the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children, as well as President of the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) of Cyprus, and was a member of the Negotiating Team for Cyprus’s accession to the European Union. She also participated in expert committees of the Council of Europe and represented the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children in the Lanzarote Committee on the protection of children against sexual exploitation and abuse.
Today, she serves as Vice President of the Cyprus Red Cross, President of the Advisory Board of the Fairy Tale Museum, and Academic Member of the Council of the ARTE Music Academy. She is also an Honorary Member of the Board of ASSITEJ Cyprus. She has contributed to the authorship of significant academic publications, reaffirming her ongoing contribution to legal scholarship and the protection of human rights.
